2019 Q2 Newsletter - Training & Events

ERAC operations staff have conducted several training sessions already this year in order to maintain best-in-class response capabilities for our Plan Participant members.

On the flammable liquids front, we assessed Accuworx while the team transferred a railcar as part of an Emergency Response Assistance Plan (ERAP) activation.

The LPG side has been much busier. The operations team has travelled to Prince George, BC twice to work with the new GFL response team as well as to Rainbow Lake, AB to run a course for the upcoming response team.  In the east, the Quebec-South Rankin team in Montreal completed their assessment for 2019, and we’ve been out to Magdalen Island to run incident assessment and stabilization training for one of our more remote Plan Participants.

LPG firefighting continues with classes in Prince Rupert and Telkwa, BC so far in 2019.

We’re looking forward to getting out and seeing the rest of the teams this year. We have new props to train with and challenging scenarios for everyone to work through. We want all our Plan Participants to know that when the time comes that they require an ERAP activation, ERAC has taken all the steps to assure that we can put a well-trained, equipped and assessed team at your incident.

Regionals

ERAC regional training and assessments are already scheduled and curriculum planning is underway. Day 1 as usual will be equipment checks and practice. As much as possible, we will arrange for rail to road transfers for both LPG and FL to maintain competencies and confidence. We have areas of concentration, as always, but if your team would like instruction or help on a specific subject, we will make room for it in the agenda; please contact Lee Nelson, Operations Manager, at lee.nelson@erac.org or 250-318-5708.

The most up-to-date schedule is always available on erac.org.

First Responder Training

ERAC offers LPG Firefighting Awareness Training (available free online) as well as a two-day LPG Level 1 Mobile Operations Training on-site for first responders.

ERAC holds about 10 LPG Level 1 Mobile Operations Training events for first responders annually, with one day of classroom instruction and an additional day of “live burn” exercises. These events are held across Canada; instructors are ERAC full-time technical advisors with NFPA 1041 Level 11 Instructor credentials. Many of our responders are on-call firefighters in their community. If you’d be interested in attending or arranging training for your department, contact Lee Nelson, Operations Manager, at lee.nelson@erac.org or 250-318-5708.
