At ERAC, our mission is to deliver safe, timely and effective dangerous goods emergency response services and training on behalf of our Plan members and first responders. As a leader in our industry, we strive for continuous improvement, innovation, and growth. To that end, at the request of our Plan members, we continue to take steps to broaden the emergency preparedness and response services we offer our Plan members, with additional support for Class 2 dangerous goods commodities such as hydrogen and ammonia.
Earlier this year, our Operations team completed ERAC’s first hydrogen Regional Training and Assessment (Regional) in Edmonton, Alberta, where the Nucor Environmental Solutions team successfully passed their 2024 hydrogen Regional. This October, members of our Operations team travelled to Seaside, California, where they participated in The Ammonia Safety & Training Institute’s Ammonia Responder Course and gained additional experience safely responding to ammonia-related incidents.
Ultimately, listening to our members’ needs and adding more Class 2 dangerous goods commodities to the fold, allows us to be a one-stop shop for those Plan members who produce and transport these products. This means our members can have the same confidence that ERAC will take care of all their training, equipment and response capabilities they have come to expect for all class 2 and 3 dangerous goods.
I am proud of our team of dedicated professionals, who our members rely on to continually improve on the suite of emergency response assistance plan services we offer. Our Plan members can count on us to anticipate and prepare for developing industry trends and regulatory changes.

President
In October, we invited our Plan members to complete our biennial Plan Member Survey.
Survey respondents were asked to provide feedback on their overall satisfaction with ERAC, the number and nature of interactions with ERAC, the timeliness and quality of communications, and suggestions for improvement.
While we are still assessing some of the survey results and comments, we are pleased to report a 98.4% satisfaction rating from our Plan members.
ERAC thanks all those who took the time to complete our survey and provided feedback to assist us in making our organization even better.
ERAC would like to thank longtime board member Ian Appleton (Parkland Fuel Corporation) for his service with our organization. Ian joined the board in April 2016 and served as board Chair in 2018/19 and was Chair of our Audit and Finance committee in 2022. Ian’s commitment and contributions to the ERAC board are greatly appreciated!
Each year, ERAC holds several Liquefied Petroleum Gas (LPG) Level 1 Operations Firefighting training courses for first responders across Canada. Course participants review commonly encountered LPG emergencies, work through strategies and tactics to safely manage the situation and complete their training with hands on “live burn” exercises. Instructors are ERAC full-time technical advisors with NFPA 1041 instructor credentials. Many of our participants are on-call firefighters in their community.
You can learn more about our LPG training courses here.
